We have a list that allows the members of the group to mail to one address, and it go to all recipients on said list (although thats something not everyone on it has grasped)... following the realisation this was an effective way to spread second rate jokes, the following article caused much... and ongoing amusement - specifically on the topic of underwear and footwear.

None the less a responsible article from a member of the team LEAST likely to be caught out on a pointy bit of land.

Boots

3 season waterproofed (not necessarily Goretex) will suit our needs best. It is essential for adequate ankle support and decent grip (Vibram or similar). It would be daft to jeopardise the whole event through an easily avoided twisted ankle - which is the most common injury with groups I have been involved with - all caused by poor footwear. Hopefully you have some suitable boots that you have worn with comfort beforehand. Trainers are lethal.

Waterproofs

We will be very lucky to avoid weather! so a decent jacket and overtrousers will help. Goretex is good Paramo is best (in my opinion) but neither work unless they are properly proofed - so now's the time to do it. Any other similar products will be adequate but thin shower proof items will seriously threaten your (and maybe the group's) enjoyment. Some people think that getting wet is part and parcel of a walking day and put up with it - but this is so unnecessary and under certain conditions can threaten the safety of the whole group.

Undies

First rule is - no cotton. Once wet is a fantastic conductor of heat - AWAY from your body. So ditch the T-shirts for walking.

Helly Hansen Lifa tops or similar will be fine. I use multiple thin layers dependant upon temperature.

Socks - a very personal choice - some use a thin lining pair then thicker ones on top.

Sundries

Hat and some gloves.

First Aid Kit and Group Shelter will be in my rucksack (unless somebody else wants to carry it!)
